Guide · Day planning
A better day out starts with fewer assumptions.
Choose stops that fit your dog’s mobility, temperament and access needs, then leave enough time and flexibility for the plan to change.
1. Start with your dog
Think about comfortable walking time, recovery breaks, heat or cold, busy environments, indoor access, surfaces, secure areas and how your dog responds to unfamiliar dogs or people. A young, senior, reactive or mobility-limited dog may need a very different day from the route that looks most efficient on a map.
2. Check every stop independently
- read the access label rather than relying on the category name;
- check evidence and verification dates;
- review seasonal and time-based restrictions;
- confirm whether access is indoors, outside only or still unknown; and
- contact the operator when a facility or adjustment is essential.
3. Make travel time realistic
Straight-line estimates are useful for comparison but are not turn-by-turn routes. Terrain, crossings, public transport rules, car parks and crowded paths can change the practical journey. Add time for water, toilet breaks, settling and leaving a place that is busier than expected.
4. Use a simple itinerary
Keep the number of stops manageable. Put the most time-sensitive stop first, place rest opportunities between demanding activities, and add notes about arrival times or access questions. DogSphere itineraries keep stops in order, estimate the time between them, and check recorded dog restrictions and published opening hours for the date and times you plan, so you can review the plan as a whole.
Signed-in users can build a plan in the day planner and send it to others as a read-only link; shared plans and collections never expose the owner’s private dog profile.
5. Keep a low-friction backup
- save one nearby alternative with confirmed access;
- bring water, waste bags, a suitable lead and any routine equipment;
- know where you can shorten the route;
- leave if conditions are unsuitable rather than forcing the itinerary; and
- check time-sensitive details again on the day.
