Coast & seasonal rules
Dog-friendly beaches
Many UK beaches restrict or ban dogs between spring and autumn, and the exact dates differ by council. Below are the areas we cover, the seasonal rules we've recorded, and links to the source.
Check the dates before you travel
Seasonal beach rules change year to year and can be updated at short notice. We show the published rule and its source, but the on-site signs are the final word. Each beach's page shows whether a restriction is active right now.

Leads required where signed
Some areas ask for dogs to be kept on a lead — for example beside children's play areas and sports pitches. Always follow local signage.

Dogs are welcome in London's Royal Parks
The Royal Parks welcome dogs for walks across central London's parks. Keep your dog under close control, use a lead if recall is unreliable, and take particular care near lakes and waterfowl.

Follow on-site signage and keep your dog on a lead where required. An authorised officer can require a dog to be put on a lead if it is not under proper control.
