Cambridge’s guide spans open spaces, nature reserves, cafés and pubs. Parker’s Piece, Jesus Green and Cherry Hinton Hall park are listed as places where dogs may roam without a lead unless a restriction applies; Cherry Hinton Hall also has designated lead areas. Barnwell East Nature Reserve has chalk grassland, scrub and a pond, with seasonal lead requirements. For a visit indoors, the Panton Arms welcomes dogs inside and in its courtyard garden, with water and treats for well-behaved dogs.

Cambridge City Council requires handlers to clean up immediately after their dogs in all streets and open spaces. Dogs must be kept on leads in specified places, including parts of Cherry Hinton Hall and cemeteries, and from 1 March to 31 July at Barnwell East, Barnwell West, Bramblefields, Logan’s Meadow, Paradise and West Pit local nature reserves. Elsewhere, dogs may roam without a lead only when under control; specified areas can limit a handler to four dogs, and an authorised officer can require a lead.

Check seasonal signs before visiting a listed reserve, particularly between March and July, when the lead rule applies.
